A Thoughtful Way to Enter the New Year

The Space We Often Skip

There comes a time at the end of the year that rarely gets our attention.

The holidays are winding down. The calendar is about to turn. And for a short time, we’re not fully in the old yea or the new one.

Most of us rush through this space. We jump straight to goals, resolutions, and change. But in wellness work, whether with teams, or organizations or individuals this pause is where clarity begins.

Why Reflection Matters

Years ago, standing on the shore of Okanagan Lake, ready for my first Ironman triathlon to start, I felt both excitement and doubt. I wasn’t fully ready. I didn’t have everything figured out. But I knew why I was there.

That sense of purpose didn’t eliminate fear, but it helped to calm me down.

Research and real-world experience continue to show the same pattern: sustainable change doesn’t come from pressure or perfection. It comes from alignment, knowing what matters most to us and letting that guide decisions, especially under stress.

A Simple Reflection

Before thinking about what you want to do next year, try this:

What do I want more of in my life, and what am I willing to save space and time for?

  • Not what sounds impressive.

  • Not what others expect.

  • Just what’s matters most to me.

You don’t need a perfect answer. You just need an honest one.

Dig into your WHY this year

I’ve created a course called “WHY POWER” that goes over how to discover your purpose or your WHY in life. It’s a 6 part course that you can do at your own pace online, and it’s available for only $49. Want a preview of some of the content I’ll cover in the course? Watch the video below.

Share the Wellness with Your Friends!

At RTJ Wellness, we believe calm isn’t a personality trait, it’s a practiced response. Purpose isn’t something you discover once, it’s something you return to.

As we head into the new year, this newsletter will focus on practical tools, grounded science, and thoughtful reflection, supporting sustainable wellbeing at work and in life.

Sometimes the most powerful step forward is simply embracing reflection and figuring out your “WHY”.

If you know someone that would benefit from this newsletter, share this link with them.
